We want to invite you to participate in an important benefit for the African Village Survival Initiative (AVSI), “The Yoga with a Purpose Benefit Week”, November 16th to 22nd 2009.
We are calling on yoga schools and other healing arts teachers and studios in the Philadelphia area, as well as nationally,
AVSI is led by the Uhuru (freedom) Movement, and is bringing African people together in the U.S. and worldwide to build collective community sustainable solutions to the economic crisis that has hit the black community particularly hard. These crucial programs include community gardens; water harvesting and solar energy systems; and in particular at this time, the self-reliance economic development projects -- a recording studio and commercial kitchen for the Uhuru House in St Petersburg FL!
This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone in the yoga and healing arts community to support this important initiative. Another major benefit is that Yoga With a Purpose gives you the ability to reach out into your community and bring many new people who have the vision of participating in positive social change into your studio.
Here is what we are asking you to do:
During the week of November 16th-22nd either donate the proceeds from a particular class or hold a special class or workshop where all the monies raised will go to AVSI.
We can send you support materials to help build your class and promote your studio!
- Color Postcards
- Color Posters (which you can also download - can be modified to promote your class)
- Press Release
The beautiful color poster and postcard can be used to promote your class in your community. We are promoting the Yoga with a Purpose Benefit Week through the media and various internet sites and sources. You can use the press release to spread the word through local media and your studio's newsletter.
We will be glad to send you some literature with more information on the AVSI programs and a speaker to come to your studio. More information on these projects can be found at APEDF.org, You can download all the literature from the website to use to promote your class.
If every one of us donates just one class we will raise the much needed funds for exciting African self-determination projects including the opening of a licensed community kitchen which will help create community food businesses, and secure the equipment for a recording studio to give independent African artists a place to produce their work and express their true aspirations.
Please let us know if you would you like to join this exciting campaign, if you would you like to receive some info in the mail or on line and if you know anyone else who may be interested in participating.
I am a volunteer for a Non Profit organization. We are organizing a Yogathon Event in West Long Branch, NJ on November 15th, 2009.
ReplyDeleteYou can find more details about the event at http://yogathon.iahv.org.
The funds raised from the event will be donated for Stress-Free Violence-Free school programs and Veteran's programs.
